It’s fall y’all! I don’t know why I just said “y’all” because I’m from Michigan. Please ignore, okay thanks. September is here and I am so excited. I cannot wait to watch Kona jump around in piles of leaves, go to my favorite apple orchard, and pull out all of my favorite fall clothes. However, a transition into fall wouldn’t feel complete without an August roundup first! As always, this last month was hectic. Why is being an adult always so darn busy? I remember as a kid hearing my mom and her friends always chat about how each month/year seemed to go quicker than the one before it. As a kid, I could never understand what this meant. Everything seemed to last forever back then, but now that I’m a grownup (when did that even happen??) I finally know how they felt.
So, without further ado here are some of my favorite things from this final month of summer:
How can a month be bad when you start it on a vacation?! At the beginning of August, Matt and I took a trip to Colorado (more details about that in this post). We spent the week hiking, exploring, drinking too much coffee, and just spending time together. It was absolutely perfect and so restorative. Matt’s job has him working a weird schedule. Combine his weird schedule with my unconventional work hours and it seems like we hardly ever see each other. Being able to spend a few full days together was so wonderful and exactly what we needed.
If you follow me on Instagram, you’re probably aware that I had a booth at a bridal show in August! It was my first show at my alma mater, Oakland University. Hosting my booth was such a great experience. So many of my former brides and clients popped over to say “hi”. I was able to meet (and book!) some new clients as well!
Being really focused on mindful while spending time with my pup, Kona, has been such a relaxing effort. While I love my dog so so much, it’s easy to have the mundane task of “walking the dog” become a chore. For a long time, I would rush out the door with a million other tasks on my mind hoping the walk would be over with quick. For the month of August, I made the intentional decision to shift my mindset and use this walks as a way to start my day fresh, focus on the calming presence of nature, and have as much fun with Kona as possible. Now, instead of rapidly clipping on Kona’s leash, I don’t rush. I grab my iced coffee, put a tennis ball in my pocket, put my phone on silent, and take a slow, present walk around the neighborhood. This mindset shift has been so rewarding and now our morning walks is the best part of my day!
I know, I know. My clients made it into last month’s roundup too. I can’t help it! Working with such amazing people is always a highlight of my month. Since the day after I got back from Colorado, I’ve had 1-2 photoshoots every day! I wouldn’t trade the busyness for a second. Thank you to all of my incredible August couples. Can’t wait for the photoshoots already lined up in September!
My husband is always teasing and harping about how I don’t know enough history. I can’t list all the U.S. presidents and please don’t ask me what the war of 1812 was fought about. Learning more about history has always been one of my goals, but I just never have the time! When I do have downtime, the last thing I want to do is open up a history book. In the month of August, Matt and I decided that we would try and expand my knowledge by watching some films and documentaries! Much easier to accomplish than reading a dry book and during my busiest weeks I can watch while editing. The first documentary we picked was the PBS Ken Burns series on the Vietnam War. I really enjoyed the film and it led me to reading a short biography on Lyndon B. Johnson. It’s amazing how much easier non-fiction reading is when you’re already interested in the subject! Matt and I are sticking with this goal and looking for a new time period/historical event to focus in on during September. If you have any suggestions, please send them my way!
Despite the fact that I chopped it off again this month….I LOVE my hair! Back in May, I noticed that my hair was starting to fall out due to stress. While I did make some lifestyle changes to decrease my stress levels, I also started taking some supplements. One of my favorite products for my hair has been this collagen peptide powder! Within two weeks of adding a bit into my morning coffee, I noticed insane hair and nail growth. You can’t taste it all and it has made such a huge difference for me.
She may have released it at the very end of summer, but it’s now basically the soundtrack of Summer 2019. I can’t tell you how many hours I’ve spent editing while playing Lover and Paper Rings on repeat!
That’s a wrap on Summer 2019. What an incredible season it was. I am so looking forward to whatever blessings, challenges, hardships, and joys that the next few months will bring!
